\nAbout the two 16 mm Films:< /strong>
\nPresents an overview of 18th and 19th-century Americ an folk art created by women and offers a look at the daily lives of these women in urban and rural America.
\nFour women artists from Missi ssippi discuss their art and lifestyles. Includes writer Eudora Welty\, qu iltmaker Pecolia Warner\, painter Theora Hamblett\, and Ethel Mohamed\, wh o creates embroidered pictures.
\nAbout the Film Collection< /strong>
\nThe 16mm film collection has been part of the Miami-Dade Public Library System's holdings for over 55 years. It began in the 1960s\ , and its first films were part of the City of Miami&rsquo\;s public libra ry before there was a county library. When MDPLS was formed\, the County s upplemented its local funding for films with Federal LSCA (Library Service s and Construction Act) grants. Apart from leased feature films\, all film s were purchased for free exhibition for the life of the print. Subjects w ithin the collection include experimental/avant-garde art films\, non-narr ated films\, children&rsquo\;s films\, Black history\, Floridiana\, and lo cal history. Today\, there are over 4\,000 films within the collection.
\nAbout the Division of Special Collections &\; Archives
\nMiami-Dade Public Library System&rsquo\;s Division of Speci al Collections &\; Archives holds rare and irreplaceable historical doc uments for the benefit of the public and scholarly community. They oversee the Helen Muir Florida Collection\, 16mm Film Collection\, Cuban Collecti on of Rare Books &\; Ephemera\, Genealogy Collection\, The Vasari Proje ct\, and rare &\; antiquarian books from as early as the 17th century. The Division's primary goal is to provide the public with the contents of the vault at their request. Its collections include rare books\, original manuscripts\, over 18\,000 photographs\, prints\, artifacts\, audiovisual resources\, and electronic media.
\n\nAbout the A merican Seams Filmmaker: \;
\nCarly Jakins is a do cumentary filmmaker whose work has been curated by The Atlantic and ITVS's Independent Lens. Her debut\, Ghosts on the Mountain\, was the Documentar y Short award winner at the American Society for Visual Anthropology and H eartland Film Festival in 2014. Jakins has produced and co-directed severa l other award-winning short documentaries\, including producing the featur e documentary\, Scenes From the Glittering World (PBS\, 2022). She is curr ently engaged in exploring the experiences of rural women near her home in the Western United States.
