Named to Out \;magazine&rsquo\;s 2023 list of the 100 most impactful LGBTQ+ people and The Root&rsquo\;s 202 0 list of the 100 most influential African Americans\, they have dedicated their career to centering those in the margins\, gray spaces\, and at the intersections of life. A recognizable voice in audio storytelling\, Tre&r squo\;vell hosted the award-winning shows &ldquo\;FANTI&rdquo\; (Maximum F un) and &ldquo\;What A Day&rdquo\; (Crooked Media). Under the banner of Sl ayzhon\, they also hosted and produced the limited series podcasts &ldquo\ ;We See Each Other: The Podcast\,&rdquo\; based on their debut book\, and &ldquo\;The Official Rustin Podcast\,&rdquo\; in partnership with Netflix.
\nFormerly Editor-At-Large for Xtra magazine and Director of Cultur e and Entertainment at Out magazine\, Tre'vell got their start in journalism at the Los Angeles Times where they created the beat of diversity in Hollywood with a focus on Black and queer film. Over the c ourse of their career\, they've covered every major red carpet in Hollywoo d and interviewed everyone from Viola Davis to Lil Nas X and Laverne Cox t o André\; Leon Talley. Their work&mdash\;which has graced the pages of Essence\, TIME and Entertainment Weekly\, among other s&mdash\;has been recognized by the Online News Association\, National Ass ociation of Black Journalists\, the Shorty Awards\, and the Los Angeles Pr ess Club among others.
\nA native of Charleston\, SC\, Tre'vell rece ived their Bachelor's degree in sociology from &ldquo\;the nation's headqu arters for Black male excellence\,&rdquo\; Morehouse College. A year later \, they earned their Master's degree in journalism from Stanford Universit y. In 2018\, they received the &ldquo\;Passing the Torch Award&rdquo\; fro m Better Brothers Los Angeles for their work in media and representing the LGBTQ+ community. In 2019\, they were recognized as one of Empowerment Co ngress&rsquo\;s &ldquo\;40 Under 40.&rdquo\; In 2021\, they received the L isa Ben Award for Achievement in Features Coverage from NLGJA: The LGBTQ+ Journalists Assn.

i recently graduated as a master of religion an d public life from harvard divinity school. my focus of study was in the i ntersections of the black church tradition and its queer &\; trans peop le\, as a visual artist and journalist\, presenting my first art exhibitio n\, an artist lives here\, a presentation of the works (painting and sculpture) created as part of my final project. the exhibit was featur ed in black enterprise and written about by harva rd divinity school.
\ni&rsquo\;m a renowned (and damn good) host and broadcaster\, commanding large stages in front of thousands and masterfully moderating intimate conversations one-on-one. i&rsquo\;ve host ed\, live events\, nationally-syndicated radio\, cable and local televisio n news\, and streaming digital programming for 20+ years.
\ni served as president of the national association of black journalists of los angeles (nabjla)\, a non-profit organization\, across six yea rs in leadership\, three years as vice president and three as president. i \, with our all-volunteer team\, redesigned the organization&rsquo\;s lead ership structure to distribute power and leadership more throughout the or ganization and committees to be less president-centric\, we established a vision for the future\, developed strategic partnerships with major media and national brands. as a team\, we produced frequent live events\, confer ences\, and workshops strongly focusing on developing a culture of inclusi ve community\, centering black journalists and media professionals. as pre sident\, i served as part of the founding of a coalition of leaders of jou rnalist-serving organizations that formed to fight for press freedom legis lation\, alongside other local advocates and statewide groups. that bill w as signed into california law in 2021\, then-called senate bill 98. additi onally\, i&rsquo\;ve worked on diversity\, equity and inclusion initiative s advocating for black journalists and media professionals\, helping to br ing freelance and full-time work for black journalists at some of the larg est journalism outlets in the indsutry\, and with black and independent me dia. our los angeles chapter was professional chapter of the year\, having doubled in our membership and delivering compelling and valuable space an d content for our members and leaders. and when covid-19 hit us all\, we s ustained with our community throughout the pandemic and rebounded well ret urning to larger-scale\, in-person community events and continuing to grow the organization.
\ni&rsquo\;ve been an adjunct professor of journa lism at the university of southern california (usc) since joining the facu lty in december 2021\, teaching graduate-level students at the annenberg s chool of communication and journalism. i&rsquo\;ve been a guest speaker an d lecturer at university of california berkeley\, columbia university\, an d medill\, among many other universities\, corporations and organizations.

and before we go\, one more thi ng\, a little fun history: in 2016\, i made global headlines and initiated an unexpected turn of the news cycle when i broke the scandal of michelle obama&rsquo\;s 2008 convention speech being plagiarized by melania trump at the 2016 republican national convention. &ldquo\;a media darling&rdquo\ ; is what the hollywood reporter said. their words\, not mine. later that year i was named to the 2016 ebony power 100. and my parents bought all th e issues of the magazine they could get\, so they&rsquo\;re gone.
