This introductory poetry workshop is desig ned for beginners with little to no poetry-writing experience. No prior ex perience is required&mdash\;just a willingness to write and explore poetry in a supportive\, low-pressure setting.
\n"Poetry is when an em otion has found its thought\,&rdquo\; writes Robert Frost\, &ldqu o\;and the thought has found words.&rdquo\; In this introductory work shop\, we will try to craft words that create an emotional experience \;in our readers. We&rsquo\;ll review several poetic models and then try t o write a poem or two. The goal is to learn a bit about how poetry works\, and to have some fun in the process.
\nTom Montgomery Fate \;is a professor emeritus at College DuPage in Glen Ellyn IL\, where he taught creative writing and literature courses for more than 30 years. He is the author of six books of creative nonfiction\, including \;The Long Way Home: Detours and Discoveries\, a travel memoir (Ice Cube Press\, 2022)\, \;Cabin Fever\, a nature memoir (Beacon Press)\, and \;Steady and Trembling\, a spiritual memoir (Chalice Press). A regular contributor to the \;Chicago Tribune\, his essays have appeared in the \;Boston G lobe\, Baltimore Sun\, Orion\, The Iowa Review\, Christian Century\, Fourt h Genre\, River Teeth\, and many others. Dozens of his essays have also ai red on NPR and Chicago Public Radio.
