X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Sam Gilliam (1933&ndash\;2022) was a groun
dbreaking African American artist associated with the Color Field movement
. He revolutionized painting by removing canvases from traditional frames
and draping them like fabric\, creating vibrant\, sculptural works that bl
urred the line between painting and installation. Gilliam&rsquo\;s innovat
ive approach challenged conventions and made him a key figure in modern ar
t history.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>In this program\, we will use two of his Hard Ed
ge Paintings to create inspired artwork. Sam Gilliam&rsquo\;s hard-edge pa
intings mark a distinct early phase (1963&ndash\;1966) in his career\, whe
re he worked within Color Field and geometric abstraction traditions. This
