ide tax preparation assistance on Thursdays from 10AM-12PM starting Thursday\, February 12 through Thursday\, March 19\, 2026. Tax
preparation is by appointment\, however\, schedule permitting\, volunteers
may accept walk-ins. \;

"Filing your tax re turn can be a daunting\, expensive task. That's why United Way provides fr ee tax filing support to U.S. residents\, through our online MyFreeTaxes s ervice or VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. In both cases\, United Way partners with the IRS.
\nMyFreeTaxes is the only free\, n ational online tax filing program offered by a nonprofit. It helps you fil e your state and federal taxes in 1 hour\, from your phone\, tablet or com puter. The secure software guides you through the process to guarantee you get your maximum refund.
\nSo far\, 1.5 million tax returns have be en filed using MyFreeTaxes\, saving $318 million in tax preparation fees. People also got deductions and credits they may not have known they were e ligible for\, like the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Child Tax Credit. T he service is available in English and Spanish." \;

INFORMATION ABOUT THE VOLUNTARY INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA) PROGRAM
UWCJ is continuing to provide VITA services to prepare taxes for prior yea
r\, late filing and extensions. \; The October 15th deadline has been
extended to January 3rd. \;
The process is different from prio r years\, so we want to let you know what you may expect and how to prepar e for it. \;
\nTo continue to keep everyone safe there will be n o in-office tax preparation services. All taxes will be prepared remotely. Even though we will not have face-to-face preparation\, we are making eve ry effort to make sure you will still have contact with the volunteer prep aring your taxes through video conferencing and/or phone.
\nWe will be using a secure digital platform\, Dropbox\, so you can upload your docu ments using your computer\, or even your phone! \;While we encourage a s many people as possible to use this platform and we will help you use it \, we know that not everyone has access to the technology needed to upload and send documents using digital platforms. For this reason\, we are offe ring other tax preparation types as well (see below for more details). Usi ng our digital platform and our other no-contact options will keep all of us safe and healthy.

\n< p>No matter how you submit your documents to us\, a volunteer preparer wil l still prepare your taxes and returns will still be reviewed by our quali ty reviewer to ensure accuracy. If there are any questions during the prep aration or quality review process\, we will reach out to request additiona l or clarifying information. Your return will be prepared in a timely mann er\, and you will be kept informed of the status of your tax return throug h email\, phone or text messages. \;You will receive a copy of the com pleted return which will be reviewed with you via video conference or phon e with the volunteer preparer prior to e-file.\nThe IRS has postpon ed the start of tax preparation to February 12th. Tax appointment scheduli ng for both online and curbside drop off starts February 1st. Taxpayers wi th email addresses on file who utilized VITA through UWCJ last year will a utomatically receive a notification to schedule.
