 (born January 10\, 1950) is a Chilean poet known for his innovative and po
 litically engaged works. Zurita survived imprisonment and torture during t
 he&nbsp\;military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet\, experiences that deep
 ly influenced his poetry. Zurita was awarded the Chilean National Prize fo
 r Literature\, a scholarship from the Guggenheim Foundation\, and he has h
 eld poetry readings at numerous American universities including Harvard\, 
 Yale\, Stanford and Berkeley. His books in English translation include&nbs
 p\;<em>Anteparadise</em>\,&nbsp\;<em>Purgatory</em>\,&nbsp\;<em>INRI\,</em
 >&nbsp\;and&nbsp\;<em>Song for His Disappeared Love</em>. He lives in Chil
