X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p></p>\n<p>Join us Dr. Tameka Hobbs\, Region
al Manager for the African American Research Library and Cultural Center\,
and Erin Purdy\, Senior Archivist for Broward County Library\, for an imm
ersive gallery walk through &ldquo\;Selma Is Now\,&rdquo\; a powerful exhi
bition presented in partnership with Broward Cultural Division and on disp
lay at AARLCC through June 27\, 2026.</p>\n<p>This compelling collection c
ommemorates one of the most defining moments in American history through t
he lens of photojournalist James &ldquo\;Spider&rdquo\; Martin. At just tw
enty-five years old\, Martin documented the 1965 voting rights demonstrati
ons in Selma\, Alabama&mdash\;from the harrowing events of &ldquo\;Bloody
Sunday&rdquo\; to the triumphant march to Montgomery. His striking images\
, widely circulated by national media\, exposed the brutal reality faced b
y peaceful protesters and helped galvanize public support for the Voting R
 ights Act.</p>\n<p>Sixty years later\, &ldquo\;Selma Is Now&rdquo\; presen
ts a newly restored selection of Martin&rsquo\;s photographs\, originally
premiered at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts in February 2025. Drawn fr
om the Spider Martin Photographic Archive at the Briscoe Center for Americ
an History at the University of Texas\, these images offer a deeply human
perspective on courage\, resilience\, and the enduring struggle for justic
e.</p>\n<p>This gallery walk invites reflection on the lasting impact of t
he Selma marches and their significance for American democracy. Don&rsquo\
;t miss this opportunity to experience history through the eyes of a photo
 grapher who helped change it.</p>\n<p>&nbsp\;</p>\nhttps://broward.libnet.
