X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p><strong>This workshop is is designed for p
articpants 16+.</strong></p>\n<p>Learn how to back fabric with a fusible w
eb material\, turning it into a handy iron-on. Then cut the fabric into a
cute flower shape using one of the MakerSpace&rsquo\;s Cricut machines. Yo
u can either bring the applique home to iron it onto a project later\, or
bring a garment or bag to attach it to during our session. Tips for variou
s methods of finishing the raw fabric edges will be provided.</p>\n<p><str
 ong>About the Instructor:&nbsp\;</strong></p>\n<p>Danielle Thalman began t
eaching herself to sew clothes on an ancient &ldquo\;red eye&rdquo\; Singe
r at age 9. That interest eventually expanded to include other textile art
s such as screen printing\, fabric dyeing\, quilting\, digital art and usi
ng Cricut smart cutters.</p>\n<p>Now 63 and retired from public school tea
ching in Southern Oregon\, Thalman teaches sewing for COCC and does some p
roduction sewing for a local company. She also helps run a Bend-based volu
nteer group that repairs sewing machines\, which are then donated to local
members of the community. She particularly enjoys rehabbing vintage serge
rs and teaching people how to use them. The MakerSpace volunteer crafts he
 r own jeans\, t-shirts and swimwear\, as well as jackets\, leggings\, hats
\, socks\, bags etc. While the often solitary act of making clothing has a
lways given her joy\, in recent years Thalman has come to see how crafting
can promote community.</p>\n<p>&ldquo\;Creating with others is not only f
un\, it creates bonds that enrich us all. Mending items\, upcycling and ke
eping stuff out of the landfill are all positives for the environment\, to
 o. I love how the MakerSpace promotes all of this.&rdquo\;</p>\n<p>Thalman
has climbed and flyfished extensively throughout the west but lately has
been content to fish and climb locally and hang out at her home just north
of Redmond\, which she shares with her husband\, cat and about 28 sewing
 machines.</p>\n<p>Questions? Contact <a href="mailto:lizg@deschuteslibrary
