Join us in celebrating National Re ading Month! Kick off a month of events with this 2 hour program\ , Dare to Dream: A Poetry Workshop with spoken word artist and poet Regie Cabico. \;
\nDuring the first part of the program\, Mr. Cabico w ill present his own works and the poetry of Langston Hughes. He will then guide participants in writing their own "I Am" poems. \;
\nIn th e second part of the workshop\, kids will break out into a separate space for a creative activity about identity and self-expression\, while teens a nd adults will stay in the room to have an open mic facilitated by Mr. Cab ico in a positive\, nurturing space. \;We encourage teens and adults t o choose a short excerpt from a book in advance to read during the open mi c portion or share their own poetry they wrote during the workshop. The ex cerpt should be something that represents the reader's identity in some wa y. \;

\nRegie Cabico&n bsp\;is a spoken word pioneer\, having won The Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam and later taking top \;prizes in three National Poetry Slams. He is an NYU Asian Pacific American Studies Artist In Residence. \;Televi sion credits include 2 episodes of The Poet Speaks\, HBO's \;Def Poetr y Jam\, NPR's \;Snap Judgement \;&\; MTV's Free Your \;Mind \, and TEDx. His work appears in over 30 anthologies\, including \;Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poets \;Café\;\, Spoken Word R evolution \;and The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry.&nbs p\;Mr. \;Cabico \;received the 2006 Writers \;for Writers Awar d from Poets &\; Writers for his youth writing workshops at Bellevue Ho spital. \;He is the author of \;A Rabbit In Search of a Rolex& nbsp\;(Day Eight\, 2023).
