X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p><strong>Discuss this year's Novel Idea sel
 ection.</strong><br />&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><strong>2026 A Novel Idea Book Selec
tion:</strong></p>\n<p><em>Supersonic&nbsp\;</em>charts the rise of a boom
town city in the American West where ambition outpaces memory. In the pres
ent day\, PTA president Sami Hasegawa-Stalworth is determined to rename he
r daughter&rsquo\;s elementary school after her late grandmother&mdash\;a
beloved music teacher and Japanese internment survivor. What begins as a s
 ymbolic family gesture spirals into a kaleidoscopic\, multi-generational s
tory of struggle&mdash\;for and against change\, and over who gets to defi
 ne the future.</p>\n<p>Through interwoven lives&mdash\;an opioid-addicted
19th-century conman\, a disgraced Navy seaman building a jet that will fly
  faster than sound\, a stay-at-home dad turned weed entrepreneur\, and a f
amily haunted by the ghosts of progress&mdash\;<em>Supersonic</em>&nbsp\;r
eveals how each era tries to remake the same ground beneath its feet. At o
nce intimate and panoramic\, the story channels the restless energy that p
 ropels the West.</p>\n<p><strong>About the Author:</strong></p>\n<p>Thomas
Kohnstamm was born and raised in Seattle. He still lives in the same hous
e he grew up in&mdash\;now with his wife and two children. A freelance wri
 ter for over twenty years\, he&rsquo\;s been a Spanish &amp\; Portuguese t
ranslator\, travel writer\, video &amp\; animation producer and has covere
d subjects ranging from rainforest conservation to quantum computing to ba
 ckcountry skiing.&nbsp\;<em>Supersonic&nbsp\;i</em>s his third book.</p>\n
