 ras will join us\, virtually\, at the main location of the Allen County Pu
 blic Library on Wednesday\, August 12. He will present a selection of his 
 poetry\, followed by a question-and-answer session where attendees are wel
 come to ask questions about his poetry\, poetry in general\, and the life 
 of a writer.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>This program is made possible through the gene
 rous support of a grant from Indiana Humanities.</p>\n<p>George Kalamaras\
 , former Poet Laureate of Indiana (2014&ndash\;2016)\, is Professor Emerit
 us of English at Purdue University Fort Wayne\, where he taught for thirty
 -two years. He is the author of twenty-seven collections of poetry&mdash\;
 eighteen full-length books and nine chapbooks. He has been honored with ma
 ny awards for his poetry\, including a Creative Writing Fellowship from th
 e National Endowment for the Arts\, two Individual Artist Grants from the 
 Indiana Arts Commission\, and other awards\, including&mdash\;most recentl
 y&mdash\;the 2024 Indiana Book Award in Poetry for his book To Sleep in th
 e Horse&rsquo\;s Belly: My Greek Poets and the Aegean Inside Me (Dos Madre
 s Press\, 2023). In addition to his publications in the United States\, hi
 s poems have appeared in print journals in Africa\, Asia\, Europe\, and La
 tin America and have been translated into Bengali and Spanish.</p>\n<p>One
  of George&rsquo\;s greatest loves is hound dogs! In fact\, a recent book 
 of poems focuses entirely on hound dogs. George and his wife\, Mary Ann Ca
 in (also a fellow writer and Professor Emeritus at PFW)\, have nurtured be
 agles in their home for more than thirty years\, first Barney\, then Boots
 ie\, and now Blaisie.</p>\n<p>George\, Mary Ann\, and Blaisie now reside i
 n Livermore\, Colorado\, in the mountains northwest of Fort Collins.</p>\n
