\nWhat&rsquo\;s on your agenda for summer fun\, a trip to the forest or coast? Picnics in the park? Visits with friends and family? Whatever you& rsquo\;ve got cooking\, a personalized tote will be a handy way to kick of f the adventures! In this two-hour program\, you&rsquo\;ll get to pick out and apply summer-themed heat transfer vinyl decals that have been pre-cut with the MakerSpace&rsquo\;s Cricut Makers\, and you&rsquo\;ll have the o pportunity to select your own text \;to further embellish your tote ma sterpiece.
\nAbout the Instructor: \;
\nD anielle Thalman began teaching herself to sew clothes on an ancient &ldquo \;red eye&rdquo\; Singer at age 9. That interest eventually expanded to in clude other textile arts such as screen printing\, fabric dyeing\, quiltin g\, digital art and using Cricut smart cutters.
\nNow 63 and retired from public school teaching in Southern Oregon\, Thalman teaches sewing f or COCC and does some production sewing for a local company. She also help s run a Bend-based volunteer group that repairs sewing machines\, which ar e then donated to local members of the community. She particularly enjoys rehabbing vintage sergers and teaching people how to use them. The MakerSp ace volunteer crafts her own jeans\, t-shirts and swimwear\, as well as ja ckets\, leggings\, hats\, socks\, bags etc. While the often solitary act o f making clothing has always given her joy\, in recent years Thalman has c ome to see how crafting can promote community.
\n&ldquo\;Creating wi th others is not only fun\, it creates bonds that enrich us all. Mending i tems\, upcycling and keeping stuff out of the landfill are all positives f or the environment\, too. I love how the MakerSpace promotes all of this.& rdquo\;
\nThalman has climbed and flyfished extensively throughout t he West but lately has been content to fish and climb locally and hang out at her home just north of Redmond\, which she shares with her husband\, c at and about 28 sewing machines.
