Maplewood native Bruce Eric Kaplan will be receiving the 2026 Maplewood Literary Award.

His bio states " ... Kaplan is a wonderful fellow who writes for television and draws cartoons. In television\, he has worked on shows such as Seinfeld\, Si x Feet Under\, and Girls\, and is currently an Executive Pro ducer and Co-Showrunner of Nobody Wants This. \; \;

As a cartoonist\, his work has regularly appeared in The New Yorker for over thirty years. Three collections of these cartoons have been published. They are No One You Know\, This is a Bad Time\, and I Love You\, I Hate You\, I&rsquo\;m Hungry. He has written severa l picture books for adults including Every Person on this Planet\, Edmund and Rosemary Go to Hell\, and Everything is Going to be OK. \;

In addition\, he has written and illustrated f ive picture books for children. His first\, Monsters Eat Whiny Childre n\, came out in 2010 and was an instant best seller. He has written t wo memoirs\, I Was a Child and They Went Another Way\, b oth published to great critical acclaim."
