Jan Steckel is an Oakland poet\, bi\, disa bled and Jewish.  \;Her book The Horizontal Poet won a 2012 L ambda Literary Award for poetry. Like Flesh Covers Bone won two R ainbow Awards. Among her other books are the fiction chapbook Mixing T racks and poetry chapbook The Underwater Hospital. Her colle ction of short stories\, \;Ghosts and Oceans\, was published by Zeitgeist Press in 2023. Thaisa Frank describes Jan's work this way: "B oth the lush musicality and startling imagination invite the reader to tra vel in tilted and surprising worlds."
