DESCRIPTION:A beginner-friendly workshop on superintelligent AI an
d how this new technology is evolving and impacting society..\nhttps://edi

X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>What would it actually mean for machines t
o become smarter than humans&mdash\;not just at chess or writing\, but at&
nbsp\;everything? For decades\, scientists and researchers have debated th
 e idea of&nbsp\;<strong>Superintelligent AI</strong>: systems that could o
utperform humans across nearly all cognitive tasks. What once sounded like
distant science fiction is now increasingly discussed as a real possibili
 ty within our lifetimes.</p>\n<p>This work
shop is a guided\, interactive introduction to the idea of superintelligen
ce and the problem of&nbsp\;loss of control&mdash\;what happens if we crea
 te systems that are more capable than we are\, but whose goals don&rsquo\;
t perfectly align with human values.</p>\n<p>â€
 ‹In this workshop\, we&rsquo\;ll explore:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>â€
 ‹â€‹â€‹<strong>Superintelligence</strong>&nbsp\; What it means
for an AI system to surpass human intelligence across domains\, and how t
 his differs from today&rsquo\;s AI.</li>\n<li>â
€‹<strong>Power and control</strong>&nbsp\; Why advanced AI could wiel
 d enormous economic\, political\, and strategic influence&mdash\;and why &
ldquo\;just turning it off&rdquo\; may not be realistic.</li>\n<li><strong
 >Misalignment risks</strong>&nbsp\; How sy
stems pursuing the&nbsp\;wrong&nbsp\;objectives could cause harm even with
 out malicious intent.</li>\n<li><strong>So
cietal choices</strong>&nbsp\; How decisions made today&mdash\;by research
ers\, companies\, and governments&mdash\;may shape whether AI becomes a to
ol we control or a force we struggle to contain.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>W
 hat you&rsquo\;ll get:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>A cl
ear\, non-technical introduction to core ideas from AI safety and existent
 ial risk research.</li>\n<li>Live demonstr
ations of current AI capabilities\, to ground abstract concerns in real sy
 stems.</li>\n<li>Small-group discussions a
nd thought experiments that connect AI risks to everyday life\, institutio
 ns\, and incentives.</li>\n<li>A better me
ntal model for evaluating headlines\, hype\, and claims about AI progress.
 </li>\n</ul>\n<p>Format &amp\; vibe:</p>\n
<p>This is not a lecture it is an interact
ive workshop designed to help people think clearly about a topic that is i
ncreasingly important and moving very quickly.&nbsp\;â€
 ‹â€‹Whether you&rsquo\;re new to AI\, casually interested\, or deep
ly unsure what to believe\, you&rsquo\;ll leave with a clearer picture of&
 nbsp\;why&nbsp\;many researchers take superintelligence seriously&mdash\;a
nd&nbsp\;what&rsquo\;s actually at stake&nbsp\;if we get it wrong.</p>\n<p
 >Open to adults. Registration is suggested but not required and begins Jul
 y 27.</p>\n<p><em>About our partner</em></p>\n<p><em>The&nbsp\;<strong>AI
 Safety Awareness Project</strong>&nbsp\;is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded o
n the belief that a safe AI future is one where the traditional pillars of
U.S. society have a seat at the table in deciding the direction of AI. Th
e AI Safety Awareness Project (AISAP) want to be there for the first step:
education and skills-building\, so that Americans have the necessary expe
rtise and awareness to direct our AI future. They run workshops and educat
ion programs for a variety of community groups and public institutions inc
 luding law enforcement agencies\, libraries\, churches\, universities\, as
well as the general public. AISAP partners with industry experts to infor
m organizations about frontier AI research and developments\, including to
pics as diverse as workforce augmentation and displacement\, AI agents and
companions\, cybercrime\, AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)\, and los
s of control risk.</em></p>\n<p><em>For more information about AISAP\, ple
