 pletely unknown\, but on December 10\, 2014\, WWII members of that organiz
 ation received the Congressional Gold Medal for their volunteer efforts du
 ring those years. Especially noteworthy were the Coastal Patrol base perso
 nnel who flew the Eastern and Gulf coastlines keeping an eye out for U-Boa
 ts that were sinking U.S. tankers and other ships along U.S. shores.</p>\n
 <p>Retired Librarian and author DJ Stein discusses the research and inspir
 ation behind the new novel <a href="https://discover.cuyahogalibrary.org/R
 ecord/502859"><em>Eyes in the Florida Skies</em></a>\, based on oral histo
 ries of Ohio volunteers who volunteered at a base in Panama City\, Florida
