This presentation is designed to help pare nts and caregivers better understand autism spectrum disorder and feel mor e confident about the steps that follow a new diagnosis. We will provide a n overview of autism\, discuss common developmental and learning differenc es\, and highlight the strengths and needs that may look different for eac h child. Families will learn about the wide range of supports that may be available\, including school-based services such as early intervention\, s pecial education\, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). We will a lso review therapy options that are often recommended after diagnosis\, in cluding speech therapy\, occupational therapy\, applied behavior analysis (ABA)\, and other supportive services. In addition\, this session will exp lore community resources that can help families connect with support netwo rks\, advocacy organizations\, and local programs.
