Ubuntu is an Afr ican philosophy that expresses our humanity and interconnectedness. Drummi ng is an activity that brings people\, groups or communities together. Whe n these two are meshed\, what we get is a musical gathering depicting our link to one another. Everyone is immediately connected through the making of music and drumming.
\nTake part in this interactive program that brings together impromptu musicians (made up the programs participants) pl aying unique beats on the drums and other percussion instruments. This is an intergenerational activity that everyone can enjoy regardless of musica l ability.

\nThis drop-in program takes pl ace outdoors in our Naturespace\, weather permitting. In case of rain\, we &rsquo\;ll bring the fun inside the library.

\nDrummer and multi-instrumentalist\, Babarinde Williams &ldquo\;Bab a&rdquo\; is the founder and CEO of Drums et al. He was born in the co astal city of Ebute-Metta (literally translated: 3 shores) one of the sate llite cities that make up the mega city of Lagos\, Africa&rsquo\;s equival ent of New York City. He was recognized as a drumming prodigy at a very te nder age and started performing with local\, recreational\, amateur and se mi-professional group in his neighbourhood.
\nBaba has played in a v ariety of environments. He has featured as djembe soloist at different con certs and productions. He has also been involved in Theater\, chorales\, a nd studio recordings across 3 continents of the world.
\nFor two dec ades he has been a positive force in the drumming community of Ontario. He is regarded as one of Canada&rsquo\;s most prolific and respected drummin g instructors and has facilitated numerous workshops in and around his hom e province of Ontario.
\nBaba has received honours and awards from l eading community and political figures from Premiers to councilors and the list keeps growing. He has used his knowledge and skills to assist the ch allenged and underprivileged. He has been described as a selfless and dedi cated cultural ambassador and a respected representative of the African co mmunity. He spends time at risk youths and has also given his time and eff ort to improve the lots of the less privileged.
