Join us for an introduction to growing a p ollinator garden. This session \;will \;focus on butterfly gardeni ng\, including \;plant \;selection\, garden placement\, and creati ng habitats \;that \;support monarchs\, native butterflies\, and o ther local wildlife. Participants \;will \;learn how \;plantin g \;specifically for pollinators \;can \;benefit the broader e cosystem in their own yards.

Following a career as a high school social studies teacher\, Kitt y Sanders spent 14 years as a BGO volunteer and spent much of her time learning about native butterflies\, their habitat needs\, their life cycles\, and how to share this information with young and old. She has fo und that gardening for butterflies provides benefits for many other pollin ators and other wildlife. Kitty finds it thrilling to see children observe and become fascinated with the natural world (Adults\, too). \;Kitty has led the wonderful Butterfly Education Team at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks which was chosen by the \; Arkansas State Master Gardener p rogram to be the winner of the Excellence in Education Award for 2024. Thi s group not only educates visitors to the Garden\, but also takes road tri ps for Girl Scout functions\, Garden Club meetings\, insect festivals\, an d school programs.
\nKathy Launder is a lifetime Ma ster Gardener. \; \;She has volunteered at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks since 2007 and is currently the Master Gardener chairman for t he Sensory Garden. \; \;Assisting with butterfly house tours\, but terfly days\, school tours\, and educating the public regarding nectar pla nts\, native plants\, and host plants for the butterflies native to Arkans as are just a few ways Kathy has served as a volunteer at BGO.
