In 2026\, Banned Books Week will take plac e October 4-10. Banned Books Week launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of book challenges in libraries\, schools\, and books tores. In honor of Banned Books Week\, The Wichita Public Library and The League of Women Voters - Wichita Metro will present a special Tuesday Topi cs panel discussion about banned books to address some of the common misco nceptions around the issue and what is actually happening when people talk about book bans.
