X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Enjoy your freedom to read freely? Join us
for a book discussion about a recent target of book banning: <em>M</em><e
 m>aus: A Survivor's Tale #1&nbsp\;</em>by Art Spiegelman. This critically-
acclaimed graphic novel is Spiegelman's compelling retelling of his father
Vladek&rsquo\;s life story\, that of a middle-class Polish Jew who surviv
ed the Nazi death camps. The first six chapters employ a simple\, chilling
ly effective iconography: Jews have the faces of mice\; the Nazis\, those
of cats.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>In addition to talking about the book's story\, ch
aracters\, format\, and themes\, we'll discuss the recent surge in book ch
allenges and bans across the country\, using&nbsp\;<em>Maus</em> as a case
study.</p>\n<p>While supplies last\, books will be available for checkout
at the Advanced Learning Library starting August 31\, 2026. For more info
rmation on how to register for the book discussion and check out a reserve
d copy\, call 316-261-8500 and ask to speak with the book set coordinator
or with Adult Literacies Manager Steven Kelly.&nbsp\;</p>\nhttps://wichita
