X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p><strong>Sal (NOT &ldquo\;Sally&rdquo\;!) M
iller loves her family</strong>. She loves to spend time working on projec
ts with her best friend\, Griff. And she is really excited by the start of
the new school year. But a lot of big changes keep happening: she has to
start sharing her room with her younger sister\; she and Griff get put in
separate classes at school\; and she is not sure that she likes how her ne
w teacher does things. Sal starts to feel unsure of herself and becomes mo
re than a little unhappy with the adjustments. What can she do to restore
her sense of joy and closeness with those around her?</p>\n<p><strong>Join
us for Cover to Cover on June 16</strong> to discuss "Still Sal" by Kevin
Henkes\,&nbsp\;which you can borrow&nbsp\;from the Circulation or Informa
tion desks at the Connie Morella Library\, along with the specially prepar
ed reading guide. Just ask for the May book for "Cover to Cover!" You can
also borrow electronic versions of the novel as either an&nbsp\;<a href="h
 ttps://www.hoopladigital.com/ebook/still-sal-kevin-henkes/16553380">ebook&
 nbsp\;</a>or&nbsp\;<a href="https://www.hoopladigital.com/audiobook/still-
 sal-kevin-henkes/16548205">e-audiobook</a>&nbsp\;on the library's free Hoo
pla app or online at hoopladigital.com (the book is currently not availabl
e in any format through Libby or Overdrive).&nbsp\;If you use an electroni
c version\, please contact librarian Jeff Coster (jeffrey.coster@montgomer
ycountymd.gov) for a copy of the reading guide prepared specially for our
 group.</p>\n<p><strong>Cover to Cover&nbsp\;is a new monthly reading\,</st
rong> discussion\, and activity group&nbsp\;created just for students in 2
nd and 3rd grade. Each month\, we will read a different chapter book that
you can check out ahead of time from the Connie Morella Library (or read o
r listen to on one of our free e-book apps\, if available)\, along with a
specially prepared reading guide to help you get ready for the group's nex
t meeting. At each session\, we'll have an icebreaker activity and discuss
  the plot\, characters\, topics\, settings\, and themes of the book in a v
ariety of different ways\, from traditional question-and-answer discussion
to role plays\, think-pair-share\, fishbowl\, and more to encourage fun i
nteraction among the participants. Then we'll finish with an activity rela
ted to the book--for example\, a small art or craft project or interactive
game--to reinforce the main themes or topics. Books will be chosen from a
 mong a variety of genres--adventure\, humor\, realistic fiction\, science-
 fiction\, fantasy\, mystery--with a range of diverse characters in a varie
ty of different cultural backgrounds and life circumstances. Many of the b
ooks used will be from lists of nominees at the appropriate age-level for
honors such as the Maryland Association of School Libraries&rsquo\; Black-
Eyed Susan Award and the Maryland Library Association&rsquo\;s Youth Servi
ces Division&rsquo\;s Blue Crab Young Reader Award.</p>\n<p>We'll use a ra
nge of formats\,&nbsp\;from a traditional book club\, possibly with a shar
ed read-aloud component. Volunteers can practice reading out loud to their
peers the first chapter of the next month's book\, or perhaps a short sto
ry or poems chosen for their suitability. This program is designed to supp
ort students transitioning from beginning readers and simple chapter books
into the next challenge of longer chapter books with more complex vocabul
ary\, different writing styles\, and fewer pictures\, but all materials ch
 osen for use will be in the general on-level range for ages 7 to 9.&nbsp\;
</p>\n<p>Library Program Attendance&nbsp\;(both virtual and in the branch)
is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program.
Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied
by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have a
 n accompanying child.</p>\n<p>Questions about this program?&nbsp\;Contact
