 Speculative Fiction</strong></p>\n<p>In strange times\, strange fiction ca
 n help us make sense of the world. This one-day intensive workshop is desi
 gned for new and emerging writers interested in the possibilities of specu
 lative fiction\, and how to mix high-concept narratives with strong writin
 g craft.</p>\n<p>Through discussions and interactive exercises\, we&rsquo\
 ;ll cover building worlds without spending decades doing it\, and creating
  compelling characters in stories where the rules are a bit different to o
 ur own. There will be plenty of time for generative work\, as we explore h
 ow to write about big ideas without forgetting our humanity.</p>\n<p><em>T
 his workshop is available for up to 15 people aged 18+\, aimed at beginner
  to intermediate skill level\, for new and emerging writers interested in 
 the possibilities of speculative fiction. Please note we do not provide ca
 tering other than tea\, coffee and water throughout the day and participan
 ts are encouraged to bring their own lunch or visit Public Caf&eacute\; on
  Ground Floor of the Library.</em></p>\n<p><em>Ticket prices: $80 or $40 f
 or concession holders.&nbsp\;</em></p>\n<p><strong>Rhett Davis</strong> is
  the author of <em>Arborescence</em>\, a novel about what trees might do i
 f we weren&rsquo\;t careful. It was shortlisted for the Aurealis Award for
  Science Fiction and the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction\, and longliste
 d for the Indie Book Awards and the ALS Gold Medal. His first novel\, <em>
 Hovering</em>\, was about a city that wasn&rsquo\;t sure that it should be
  there. It won the Victorian Premier&rsquo\;s Literary Award for an Unpubl
 ished Manuscript and was shortlisted for the Readings New Australian Ficti
 on Prize and the Aurealis Award for Science Fiction. Rhett has also been a
  manager\, a consultant\, a business analyst\, a bookseller\, and a creati
 ve writing tutor. He lives and writes mostly on Wadawurrung country in Gee
