Friends of the Sacramento Public Library i s a volunteer helpmate to the award-winning Sacramento Public Library syst em. As a membership-supported nonprofit\, the Friends advocate\, raise fun ds\, and provide crucial support to the system's 28 libraries. There is a Branch Friends Group at most of the 28 branch libraries of Sacramento Publ ic Library.
\nFriends of the Sacramento Public Library is proud to s erve as a community ambassador for the Library. Our volunteer activities h elp the Library expand the materials and programs serving our diverse comm unity beyond those normally included in the Library&rsquo\;s operating bud get. We also advocate on behalf of increased funding for the Library throu gh our public relations initiatives and publications.
\nWe believe t hat public libraries play an important role in giving everyone a chance to succeed because they provide free access to materials and resources. We s hare the Library's belief that reading is fundamental to children's well-b eing\, and that our community has a responsibility to ensure that all of o ur children learn to read fluently starting no later than first grade.
