 I&rsquo\;d seen the Senator speak a few times before my life got caught up
 \, however distantly\, with his\, but the first time I can remember paying
  real attention was when he delivered the speech announcing his run for th
 e Presidency.</em></p>\n<p>When David first hears the Senator from Illinoi
 s speak\, he feels deep ambivalence. Intrigued by the Senator&rsquo\;s ide
 alistic rhetoric\, David also wonders how he&rsquo\;ll balance the fervent
  belief and inevitable compromises it will take to become the United State
 s&rsquo\; first Black president.</p>\n<p>Great Expectations&nbsp\;is about
  David&rsquo\;s eighteen months working for the Senator's presidential cam
 paign. Along the way David meets a myriad of people who raise a set of que
 stions&mdash\;questions of history\, art\, race\, religion\, and fatherhoo
 d&mdash\;that force David to look at his own life anew and come to terms w
 ith his identity as a young Black man and father in America.</p>\n<p>A par
 t of the library since 1989\, the Art Tatum African American Resource Cent
 er is a dedicated space to provide educational and historical information 
 on African American cultural heritage and experiences.&nbsp\; Through book
 s\, other materials\, public programs\, and art exhibits\, the Resource Ce
 nter recognizes and celebrates the lived experiences of African Americans.
 </p>\n<p>The Resource Center is named in honor of American jazz great Art 
 Tatum (1909-1956) who grew up in Toledo's Roosevelt neighborhood.&nbsp\;</
