X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Many children are described as &ldquo\;jus
t shy\,&rdquo\; but for some\, silence in social settings is more than tem
perament&mdash\;it can reflect social anxiety or selective mutism. Katelyn
Reed\, MS\, LLP\, an expert in selective mutism and social anxiety\, will
help parents\, caregivers\, and educators understand how to distinguish t
ypical shyness from anxiety-based communication difficulties. We&rsquo\;ll
explore what social anxiety and selective mutism look like in everyday li
fe\, how they differ from shyness\, and why these differences matter for a
child&rsquo\;s development and well-being. Attendees will also learn prac
tical\, supportive strategies for responding to children who struggle to s
peak in certain settings\, with an emphasis on building bravery over time.
