 /h4>\n<p>In 1620\, a brave group of 102 men\, women\, and children sailed
across the Atlantic on the Mayflower in search of a better life. Forty-fiv
e of these passengers died in the harsh winter of 1620&ndash\;21. The Gene
ral Society of Mayflower Descendants was established in 1897 to pay homage
to the Pilgrims. The Society estimates that there may be as many as 10 mi
llion living descendants in the United States and 35 million living descen
dants of the Mayflower worldwide.</p>\n<p>The Florida Society was chartere
d in 1937. There are now 17 colonies throughout the state\, including the
John Alden Colony of Fort Lauderdale established in 1949. Today&rsquo\;s s
peakers are Colony Governor Linda Williams and Betsy Slagle\, Recording Se
cretary and Scholarship Chair. They will present an overview of the Mayflo
wer passengers and the Society\, share some resources on how to identify l
ineage to a passenger\, and explain the application process and what is co
