PAWS for Reading is a unique and fun readi ng program that allows children of all ages to develop and improve their l iteracy skills. Children can read aloud a book or tell a story to a regist ered and trained therapy dog. Caregivers are also welcome to read aloud as their child and the dog listen.

Research shows that therapy dogs can help reduce anxiety as well as improve focus and attention span. Therapy dogs serve as a calm presence and allow children to improve liter acy\, comprehension and communicate with a non-judgmental listener.

Sessions at the Severance Library are available on Tuesday morning s (subject to volunteer availability). After each session\, our readers ar e given a small prize such as a stuffed dog\, sticker\, bubbles or a book. Sign up HERE for as many slots as you would like\, up 14 days in advance.
