This special tour will feature remarks by participating artists and will run from 1:00-2:00 pm on the fifth floor of MLK Library.
The tour will meet on the fifth floor\, near the SE sta irwell near the introduction to the exhibit.

About the Exhibition: Diasporacity

As the United States commemorates its 250th year\, \;Diasporacity \;highlights and celebrates the impact of these communities on shaping the rich cultur al landscape of the nation&rsquo\;s capital and the United States as a who le. \;The exhibition is curated by Laila Abdul-Hadi Jadallah and features new and recent work of five D.C.-based artists with d iasporic roots &ndash\; \;Andrea Limauro\, \;Helen Zughaib \, \;Kimchi Juice\, \;MasPaz\, and \;Meron En gida Hawke. \;Through their work\, visitors are invited to re flect on the story of America &ldquo\;the melting pot&rdquo\; \;and it s proposed belief systems. Highly graphic figurative and lush landscape pa intings illustrate the contributions of Americans with diasporic roots\, t he power of cross-cultural solidarity and how artists stay connected and r eflect on their places of origin. Ultimately\, \;Diasporacity \;pr ovides a microcosm of how diverse communities have shaped the city&rsquo\; s and country&rsquo\;s identity.

About the Workshop: Put Your Feet i n Their Shoes
\n
Participants will have the opportunit y to create their own hand-painted shoes inspired by stories of migration& nbsp\;and home. The workshop is about communicating empathy for vulnerable children and their families fleeing their homes and crossing borders seek ing safety and a better life. These are dangerous journeys and create much hardship for them along the way. \;The work shop is appropriate for ages \;8 \;and up. All materials will be p rovided. \; \;

Th is event takes place during the The Evolution of the Bicycle\, a special event ongoing from 12:00-3:00 p.m. \; While at the library\, c heck out the related exhibition District Vibes/American Pride: How D.C . Changed American Culture and program on the first floor of MLK Libr ary and outside along G Street NW. Both events are part of the library's o bservance of the nation&rsquo\;s 250th anniversary.
