 </p>\n<hr />\n<p><em>About the author:</em></p>\n<p><strong>Angela Duckwor
 th</strong> is a Philadelphia local\, a psychologist\, a MacArthur Fellow\
, and the Rosa Lee and Egbert Chang Professor at the University of Pennsyl
vania. Her first book <em>Grit</em> (published already a decade ago!)\, ha
s sold over 5 million copies worldwide\, and her TED Talk on <em>Grit</em>
is one of the most viewed of all time.</p>\n<p><em><strong>Situated</stro
ng></em> focuses on the hidden power of situations &ndash\; and how you ca
n shape them to make doing hard things easier. In <em>Grit</em>\, she show
ed that a common denominator of successful strivers is a blend of passion
and perseverance. This book is part two of that: about the situations wher
e grit\, though necessary\, isn&rsquo\;t enough. How you position yourself
to meet a challenge is crucial.</p>\n<p>Duckworth&rsquo\;s research revea
ls the enormous influence wielded by everything from the objects within ar
m&rsquo\;s reach\, to your peers and mentors\, and even your zip code. Tho
ugh you&rsquo\;re often told to make the best out of your situation\, it i
s far\, far better to make your situation better first.</p>\n<p>She highli
ghts four essential elements of successful situations &ndash\; peers\, men
tors\, space\, culture &ndash\; and shows how high performers like Taylor
Swift\, Michael Phelps\, and Jerry Seinfeld create situations that make th
e most of their grit. And with disarming honesty\, she shares her own stru
ggles with burnout and marriage&mdash\;and how learning to change her situ
 ation\, not herself\, made all the difference.</p>\n<hr />\n<h3>FAQs</h3>\
