Cul ture\, History\, and Society: Historic Indianapolis&mdash\;The D igIndy Tunnel System is one of ( if not the) largest infrastructure projects in the h istory of Indianapolis. C itizens Energy Group built the tunnel system 250 feet below gro und and with a diameter of 18 feet such that it will capture an estimated 5 billion gallons of wastewater overflow each year from the sewer systems of Indianapolis and direct the waste to treatment facilities for safe rele ase. The captured waste would have otherwise entered the community&rsquo\; s waterways\, and its elimination will be incredibly impactful for the river environments\, water quality\, and the public health of su rrounding communities. This in-person presentation will cover t he historical need for such a project\; the evolution of its design\; the interesting complexities of its construction\; and what the program will n ow accomplish for our Indianapolis neighborhoods. \nPresented by: Mike Miller\, MSCE\, PE\, Manager (Te chnical Services &\; Construction) at Cit izens Energy Group\, has a rich background in the geotechnical engineering and construction industry. He has more than 25 years of profes sional experience\, with the past 12 spent at Citizens Energy Group leadin g the program management of the $2 billion DigIndy Tunnel System. His expe rtise in geotechnical engineering (including investigations and instrument ation)\; earth support\; temporary earth retention system design\; and tun nel design has been crucial in the successful completion of DigIndy. He is a graduate of Michigan State University and a licensed Professional Engin eer.
