A free weekly writing workshop that provid es space for you\, the writer\, to develop your practice. In our cross-gen re approach\, we will examine multiple modes of writing that involve poetr y and prose\, or are a hybrid of both! This workshop is open to all levels and methods of writing\, and aims to create an inclusive and productive e nvironment for everyone who is interested.
\nDuring our six meetings \, participants can expect to generate work\, share work\, and learn how t o critique the work of others (by published authors and their own peers). Our discussions will touch on various craft techniques in an effort to und erstand what makes writing compelling\, and explore ways to implement thos e strategies in our own work.
\nAdditionally\, this workshop will ch ampion the short forms of each genre. We will focus on concision\, highlig ht what is essential in the language\, and model our processes on professi onal examples. Readings will be provided by the instructors and will inclu de writers such as: Ada Limon\, Amy Hempel\, Major Jackson\, Maggie Nelson \, Joan Didion\, and Carmen Maria Machado. \;
\nParticipants are expected to attend all six sessions. \;
\nBios:
\nJeff Thomas is a poet from The Thumb. A graduate of Eastern Wash ington University&rsquo\;s MFA program\, Thomas is a former poetry editor of Willow Springs magazine. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Southeast Review\, The Glacier\, Slipstream\, and elsewhere.
\nBrian Lynch is writer from New York\, living in Washington State. He is the for mer fiction editor of Willow Springs magazine. Recent work has appeared in Peatsmoke and Inkfish and been nominated for multiple awards.
\nGra ce Anne Anderson is a company artist with Vytal Movement Dance company her e in Spokane. She holds an MFA from Eastern Washington University\, where she served as poetry editor for Willow Springs Magazine. Currently\, she i s an editorial assistant with Palette Poetry and some of her recent work i s published or forthcoming in Poetry Northwest\, Blood Orange Review\, Red Branch Review\, and The Shore literary magazines.
