\nSeptember 12 - The Art o f Kokedama
\nKokedama\, a Japanese inspired planting te chnique\, transforms plants into sculptural moss wrapped forms that blur t he line between nature and design. In this live demonstration\, Edwin Sand oval will guide attendees through the process of creating a kokedama from start to finish while sharing insight into materials\, plant selection\, a nd care. The presentation will also explore how kokedama can be used in co ntemporary spaces as an alternative to traditional potted plants\, offerin g a more organic and evolving form of living dé\;cor.< /p>\n
October 8 - Algae Blooms: Transport and Ecology of Benthic Harmful Dinoflagellates in the Indian River Lagoon
\nI n this presentation\, Paige Aldred will share insights into the ecology an d movement of harmful algae within the Indian River Lagoon\, highlighting the field and laboratory research used to better understand these microsco pic organisms. Attendees will learn about the ecosystems she studies\, the methods scientists use to investigate water quality and phytoplankton blo oms\, and key findings from her research. Paige will also share stories fr om the field and discuss why this work is important for protecting the hea lth of the lagoon\, supporting local communities\, and informing future co nservation and management efforts.

\nJoin us for a hands-on bromeliad care workshop with instr uctor Stephanie LaRusso as she demonstrates common horticultural practices including how to know when bromeliad pups are ready to be clipped\, how t o pollinate bromeliad flowers to make hybrids\, how/when to re-pot bromeli ads in a collection and how to select the right location for newly purchas ed plants. Soil mixes\, fertilizers\, and pesticide choices will also be d iscussed\, as well as how to troubleshoot common problems bromeliad owners may have with their collections at home.
