Ana Mendieta (1948-1985 ) was a Cuban-American artist betterknown for her "earth-body" artwork\, t he Silueta Series (1973-1985). Mendieta directly related this wor k of self image via landscape to the loss of her Cuban homeland during her adolescence. Born in Havana\, she left for the United States in 1961 at a ge 12 through Operation Pedro Pan. \;
