Ana Mendieta (1948-1985 ) was a Cuban-American artist better known for her "earth-body" artwork\, the Silueta Series (1973-1985). Mendieta directly related this wo rk of self image via landscape to the loss of her Cuban homeland during he r adolescence. Born in Havana\, she left for the United States in 1961 at age 12 through Operation Pedro Pan. \;
