M atthew Cardinal \;is an amiskwaciy (Edmonton) -based musician\, compos er\, and sound designer\, known for his work with Polaris Short List nomin ee group \;nê\;hiyawak. His music moves from delicate\, minimalis t pieces to vast drones and sparkling\, modular synthesizer compositions.< /p>\n
Stephanie Kuse \;is a Saskatoon-based media artist working wit h digitally manipulated video footage of natural textures to create painte rly abstract video art. She amplifies and distorts details pulled from pat terns and textures found in nature. The resulting compositions are vibrant and synthetic\, maintaining the organic energy and movement derived from the source material. \;
\nThe pairing of \;Cardinal&rsquo\;s meditative audio journal entries with \;Kuse&rsquo\;s sparkling visua ls results in an enveloping and otherworldly A/V experience.

\nSeulement is the solo project of
Mathieu Arsenault\, an electronic musician and audiovisual artist from Mo
ntreal. His work explores the imperfections of the human body in our era o
f technological perfection. More specifically\, he is interested in the in
tegration and transformation of the human voice and gesture in digital art
s. First known as the lead singer of the electronic rock band Technical Ki
dman\, his solo practice now extends toaudiovisual performances\, as well
as albums and experimental films. His work has been presented at numerous
festivals including MUTEK Montré\;al (CA)\, ELEKTRA (CA)\, Videocitt
à\; (IT)\, Modular M+ (HN)\, CODEC

Bricolage Architec
ture is an audiovisual performance that combines stop-motion animatio
n and live modular synthesis. It features minimal\, hyper-flickering geome
tric abstractions reminiscent of computer-generated images. The difference
being that they are all handmade using cardboard cutouts photographed on
a light tablet. Aside from editing and cropping\, no digital processing is
applied to the photos. They are shown as they were taken\, without concea
ling the imperfections in their lines\, the tears in the cardboard\, and t
he imprecisions in their movements. Rather than using purely electronic so
unds\, the music also opts for a more
physical approach. It is constr
ucted from snippets of recordings of my own voice that are transformed liv
e using the modular synthesizer. To simplify my approach\, we could say th
at I use my hands to create shapes that mimic digital imagery and that I u
se my voice to produce sounds that resemble electronic synthesis. By imita
ting technological processes with the body\, the
performance seeks to
incorporate the human gesture back into the digital arts practices which
tend more and more towards
depersonalization.
Pushing the bod y to imitate what the machine can perfectly execute generates imperfection s in both sound and image. However\, the tears in the paper and the trembl ing of the voice are exactly what the performance attempts to highlight. T his process induces a human feel to sounds and images we more often associ ate with a digital aesthetic. In this way\, Bricolage Architecture creates a tension between the irregularities of the human gesture and the systema tic execution of the machine. It questions the position of the &ldquo\;imp erfect&rdquo\; human body in our world of so-called &ldquo\;technological perfection&rdquo\;. The performance has been presented by MUTEK and ELEKTR A in Montreal\, by MUTEK MX in Mexico City (MX)\, MUTEK AR in Buenos Aires (AR)\, M+ Modular in Tegucigalpa (HN)\, Videocittà\; in Rome (IT)\, CODEC in Lima (PE).
