"The Body Remembers: A Survivor&rsquo\;s G aze" is a photographic art project that transforms my personal cancer jour ney into a visual narrative centered on healing\, identity\, and cultural resilience. Through a series of photographs&mdash\;including self-portrait ure\, survivor portraiture\, and symbolic still lifes&mdash\;I explore the emotional and physical landscape of illness and recovery.
\nThe wor k reflects the shifting relationship I developed with my body during treat ment: the loss of hair\, the softening of strength\, the emotional exhaust ion\, and the gradual return of power. As a Puerto Rican woman living in t he diaspora\, my experience of cancer also intersected with inherited hist ories of displacement\, colonialism\, and resilience. These layered themes appear in the imagery through color\, symbolism\, and the presence of wat er\, flora\, and domestic spaces.
\nThe project blends documentary s ensibility with conceptual scenes\, shot throughout Broward County in inti mate\, familiar environments&mdash\;creating photographs that are both dee ply personal and universally resonant."

\nSharma Shari is a photographer\, artist\, and media theorist whose work bridges technical precision with deep conceptual narrative. Originally tr ained as a computer engineer in Puerto Rico\, she spent three years in the industry before trading the cubicle life for a creative calling. She relo cated to Atlanta to earn her Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the S avannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)\, where she developed a practice centered on translating complex emotions and cultural theory into visual a rt. Her personal work deeply examines the concept of &ldquo\;the other&rdq uo\; through the lens of her dual Puerto Rican and American identity.
\ nSharma&rsquo\;s accolades include being a two-time finalist in Photogr aphy Forum Magazine&rsquo\;s Annual College Photography Contest\, winning the Audience Choice Award at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts\, and being selected as a Broward Cultural Division FY26 Artist Support Grant & ndash\; Cycle II awardee.
