Join us for \;MoCo Folk Festival\, a f ree afternoon celebrating the vibrant local music and songwriting communit y. From \;12:00 to 5:00 PM \;on \;Saturday\, August 29\, the R ockville Memorial Library will host a day of live music in \;Rockville Town Square\, just outside the library on the stage at \;21 Maryland Avenue\, Rockville\, MD.
\nThe festival is curated by the \;Songwriters' Association of Washington (SAW ) \;and the \;Institute of Musi cal Traditions (IMT)\, with help from Rob's Open Mics\, three local nonprofit organizations that have spent more than 40 years supportin g\, teaching\, showcasing\, and celebrating musicians and songwriters thro ughout the Washington\, D.C.\, Maryland\, and Virginia region.
\nThe afternoon begins with two hours of "open mic" style performances\, featur ing two-song sets by a diverse group of local songwriters. The program wil l then spotlight a lineup of talented performers\, including winners of th e prestigious Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair.
\nThroughout the day\, members of the songwriting community w ill also be available to meet with aspiring songwriters of all ages. Wheth er you're just beginning to write songs or looking for ways to connect wit h the local music scene\, this is a great opportunity to learn about resou rces\, performance opportunities\, and the vibrant songwriting community i n the region.
\nThe Rockville Memorial Library has hosted SAW's \;Songwriter's Toolbox \;program since 2016. The Songwriters' Associat ion of Washington is honored to continue teaming up with Montgomery County Public Libraries in bringing music education\, performance\, and communit y engagement to local audiences.
