This workshop is designed for adul ts and teens 14+. This is a drop-in event\, and registration is not availa ble.
\nZines are little books you write/draw\, smash onto a copy machine\, make prints\, and give to your friends. In their simplest form they are magazines (&lsquo\;zines) you make with a copy paper. The to pics a zine can cover are endless. They can be comics about your friends\, political rants\, personal essay\, DIY\, etc\, etc\, etc. What would you want to write a zine about?
\nIn this two-hour workshop\, we will ex plore what zines are and make a collective zine based on a prompt. Each pa rticipant will craft a page that will form a community zine. Zines will be copied by the workshop facilitator and mailed to participants upon comple tion!

\nZines have the capacity to explor e the stories otherwise marginalized from traditional media. When you hold a zine you are holding a one-of-a-kind narrative\, an unrefined artifact that resists censorship. When you write a zine you get the chance to tell your story.
\nAbout the Instructor:
\nRachel Lee-Carman is a teaching arti st focused on zines\, writing\, and illustration. She has taught residenci es through The Nature of Words\, Young Audiences\, Invisible Thread Events \, and just-for-hecks pop-up workshops. Rachel has been crafting zines for over 20 years and utilizes the medium for self-expression\, entertainment \, and the exploration of whimsy. She seeks to encourage others to tell th eir story through self-publishing as a means of deepening our relationship with self\, friends\, and community. Rachel lives in Central Oregon and w hen she&rsquo\;s not doing creative work she is watering her squash plants .
