On June 4\, 2024\, Governor Jared Polis si gned \;Senate Bill 24-053 \;(SB24-053) into law. SB24-053 establis hed a \;Black Coloradan Racial Equity Study Commission \;and direc ted History Colorado to conduct evidence-based historical research of prac tices\, systems\, and policies of the State of Colorado that have harmfull y impacted Black Coloradans. \;
\nOver the next two years Histor y Colorado will conduct evidence-based historical research and provide the Black Coloradan Racial Equity Study Commission with quarterly updates. Hi story Colorado will also conduct community engagement sessions where the p ublic may provide input based on lived experiences of practices\, systems\ , and policies of the State of Colorado which negatively impact Black Colo radans.
\nAt the conclusion of this research\, the Black Coloradan R acial Equity Study Commission will hire a third party to conduct an econom ic analysis based on the research conclusions of History Colorado. This ec onomic analysis will be submitted to the Black Coloradan Racial Equity Stu dy Commission and used to draft a final report which will include any reco mmendations to address harms caused by practices\, systems\, and policies of the State of Colorado.
