The&nb sp\;Upskilling Labs \;is \;a fast-growing civic learning community bringing together mission-driven professionals to explore how emerging te ch (AI and others) and skill-sharing can unlock new value for our local co mmunities\, designed as a three-month "build cycle" that consists of month ly meetups\, weekly workshops\, and an online community for collaboration and discussion on Slack (an online communication platform). The Upskilling Labs Meetups are a great place to come together with like-minded people t o explore and experiment with emerging technologies like AI. \n​At Meet the Projects\, project teams made up of 3-7 Upskillers will share the proj ects they plan to build\, and will solicit input from invited civics\, ele ctions and emerging tech experts.
\n​Meetups are preceded by upskilling workshops. The workshops designed for Upskillers in the build c ycle\, but are open to the public!

​Speaker Bio:John Cornwell \;is a nonprofit and pub
lic sector consultant with 20 years of strategy consulting and executive r
oles. His expertise includes strategy design and planning\, stakeholder st
orytelling\, project management\, and strategy execution. His clients incl
ude public universities\, community colleges\, major cancer centers\, soci
al services agencies\, and policy development organizations. John studied
persuasion at Harvard Kennedy and teaches storytelling / presentation desi
gn classes to help clients build staff and donor engagement. He is a board
member for several nonprofits\, and the executive director of a nonprofit
that fundraises for nonprofits that are too small to have development tea
ms.
Meetups convene comm
unity around quarterly themes\, with each three-month build cycle followin
g a structured progression\, generally happening on second Tuesdays of the
month:
Month 1: \;Theme Launch &\; Expert Panel- A panel o f experts from government (local\, national\, international)\, private sec tor\, academia\, and nonprofit organizations presents current challenges w ithin the quarterly theme. The discussion catalyzes ideas about how emergi ng technologies can address these problems and identifies opportunities fo r innovation. Community members who'd like to participate in the cycle can submit problem statements related to the theme\, which will serve as the basis for project groups throughout the cycle.
\nMonth 2: \;Meet the Pods- Community members have the opportunity to present on their prob lem statements and initial research and receive feedback from subject matt ers. At meet the pods\, new participants have the opportunity to join a po d and project group based on what they hear.
\nMonth 3: \;Progre ss Showcase- Community members voluntarily present their work to date\, sh aring what they've built\, lessons learned\, and next steps. This creates accountability\, facilitates knowledge sharing\, and builds momentum acros s the community.
\nThis cycle repeats quarterly with new themes\, cr eating sustained engagement while allowing flexibility for participants to join at any point or contribute to multiple cycles\, and work on their pr ojects as long as they would like to.
