 ke sense of local news. Drawing on the Agora Journalism Center&rsquo\;s wo
 rk with communities across Oregon\, this program will explore why local jo
 urnalism matters\, how social media and community networks shape what we k
 now\, and what it means to build a healthier local information ecosystem. 
 Participants will leave with new ways to think about the news they consume
  and why trusted local information is essential to civic life.</p>\n<p><st

 sp\;holds the endowed chair in journalism innovation and civic engagement 
 and directs the&nbsp\;<a href="https://agorajournalism.center/">Agora Jour
 nalism Center</a>\, a forum for the future of local news and civic health\
 , at the&nbsp\;<a href="https://journalism.uoregon.edu/">University of Ore
 gon's School of Journalism &amp\; Communication</a>. The center energizes 
 research\, teaching\, and learning to foster pathways for public participa
 tion and transform how communicators and journalists inform and relate wit
 h their communities. A constant connector and bridge builder\, DeVigal&rsq
 uo\;s leadership at the school has led to industry-recognized initiatives 
 such as&nbsp\;<a href="https://letsgather.in/">Gather</a>\, a platform tha
 t supports community-minded journalists\, and the&nbsp\;<a href="https://a
 gorajournalism.center/the-doers-gathering-toolkit/">Doers Gathering</a>\, 
 a toolkit that drives community-driven solutions to pressing local issues.
  Before joining the UofO\, DeVigal was the multimedia editor at&nbsp\;<a h
 ref="https://www.nytimes.com/">The New York Times</a>\, where he directed 
 the multimedia team and conceived and produced ground-breaking story forms
