About Dr. Hugh Simpson
Dr. Hugh Simpson is a Prin cipal Investigator and Senior Research Scientist with the Morwick G360 Gro undwater Research Institute at the University of Guelph. Hugh is also a re search consultant with Grounded Collaborative Services. Hugh is a Professi onal Geoscientist and has more than 30 years of experience working in prov incial and regional municipal government focusing on the management and pr otection of groundwater resources.

\n

His current research and practi ce concern collaborative interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approache s to complex problem-solving concerning groundwater management and protect ion involving the diverse communities and their interests in agricultural and rural settings. This reflects his broader interest in promoting the in volvement of communities in groundwater management and protection in the c ontext of the emerging field of Socio-Hydrogeology.

He served as a subject matter expert concerning groundwater and private water system pol icy and program efforts throughout Ontario\, including leading Source Prot ection Planning activities and private water well best management practice s knowledge translation and transfer\, with the Ontario Ministry of Agricu lture\, Food and Rural Affairs from 2000 through 2022. He provided technic al review and guidance concerning private and public water and wastewater initiatives and coordinated the private-municipal water well interference program\, to better manage and protect local groundwater resource througho ut rural portions of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo from 1992 to 20 00.
