What is a picture book? Picture books are stories meant for the \;youngest of \;readers\, where the illustra tions and text work together to tell a story. They \;beg \;to \;be read \;aloud (like poetry!) \;and they make children lean in\ , eyes wide\, waiting for what happens next. In this introduction to writi ng picture books\, Alexandra will introduce attendees to the art and craft of writing picture books. Attendees will learn why picture books are crit ical for young readers\, as well as the key elements of writing picture bo oks\, including character\, plot and structure\, and language. Finally\, a ttendees will spend some time brainstorming picture book ideas and creatin g \;the \;foundation for their own story\, which they can share wi th others. \;
