Hope Coulter&rsquo\ ;s work includes Rumors of Peace\, The Wheel of Light\, and two earlier novels. Her writing has won recognition such as Meringoff Awards in nonfiction and poetry and the Porter Prize for Literary Excellen ce. Hope is a Louisiana native who earned her AB at Harvard and her MFA at Queens University of Charlotte. Now retired from Hendrix College\, she li ves in Little Rock.

The eight storie s are mostly set in the southern U.S.\, and most have female protagonists& mdash\;but more than those common elements\, the collection is about the s tories we spin to sustain our versions of self. In the end it&rsquo\;s abo ut generational myth-building and how girls\, in particular\, inhabit narr atives in the process of authoring their lives.
