The Little Rock Censor Board \;operate d \;from the early 1900s to the mid-1970s as an official department of the city. The \;board had the authority to close entertainment venues and ban movies\, plays\, and books they \;deemed \;obscene or ina ppropriate for public consumption. The 1973 landmark U.S. Supreme Court de cision on obscenity \;coupled with \;changing public attitudes con tributed to the \;board&rsquo\;s demise. Tim \;Nutt \;will dis cuss the history of the Censor Board and highlight a few of its obscenity battles.

Tim Nutt is&n bsp\;the archivist for the Catholic Diocese of Little Rock. Previously\, h e held the positions of \;director of the Historical Research Center a t the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and \;head of Specia l Collections at the University of Arkansas \;in \;Fayetteville.&n bsp\;Nutt \;was the founding \;deputy \;curator of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies at the Central Arkansas Library System\, and h e \;served as the founding \;managing \;editor and \;staff  \;historian of the Ency clopedia of Arkansas while at the Butler Center.

This is a h ybrid program offering participants the opportunity to attend either in pe rson or \;virtually via \;Zoom. To \;participate \;in pers on\, join us at \;the \;Darragh Center \;on the \;5th  \;floor \;of the \;CALS Main Library (with elevator access).
