The Malibu Library Speaker Series presents Marine microbiologist and explorer Dr. Jeffrey Marlow at Malibu Library o n Wednesday\, October 21\, 2026\, at 7 pm.
\nDr. Marlow offers a new perspective on the power and beauty of the deep sea in his first book\, T he Dark Frontier: Unlocking the Secrets of the Deep Sea. He illuminates th e ocean&rsquo\;s scientific marvels\, including microbes that breathe meta l and fish that withstand crushing pressures\, as well as theories about h ow underwater habitats may have been the cradle of life on Earth. He will reveal the deep sea&rsquo\;s microbial universes\, worlds within worlds th at have opened new possibilities of survival in extreme environments.
\ nDr. Marlow \;is an \;Assistant \;Professor \;of \; Biology \;at \;Boston \;University\, where \;his \;lab \;studies the links between microbes and their surroundings in a rang e of extreme environments. \;He has led or participated in 10 deep-sea research expeditions and worked on the science team of three of NASA's Ma rs rover missions. He has served as a science advisor at the United Nation s' negotiations for the High Seas Treaty and is a member of the National A cademies of Sciences New Voices leadership program. Additionally\, he is a National Geographic Explorer and a fellow of The Explorers Club and the R oyal Geographical Society.
