DESCRIPTION:Talk It Up is a series of thought provoking and real conversat
ions\, with this year's session focused on truth and reality in the age of
  AI..\nhttps://grlc.libnet.info/event/17343683
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>In an era dominated by conversations about
misinformation and disinformation\, the central question remains: What is
truth? Truth has become plural\, elusive\, and at times inaccessible. The
way we think about and engage with information has shifted dramatically\,
with artificial intelligence supercharging these changes. AI has blurred
the lines between what is real and what is true\, forcing us to interrogat
e whether there is a difference to begin with.</p>\n<p>Art and political i
nformation alike have become impressionistic - less about logic and more a
bout evoking emotion\, challenging us to navigate a world of competing rea
lities. Misinformation is not new\; it stretches back to the Roman Empire.
Yet\, AI adds a fresh layer of complexity. Whether it&rsquo\;s the uncann
y valley unsettling our perceptions or the reality that machines now have
a voice in shaping society\, we are grappling with something fundamentally
new.</p>\n<p>This is a conversation about the nature of truth\, the infor
mation we receive\, and how 21st-century technologies are reshaping our un
 derstanding of both.</p>\n<p><strong>About the presenter:</strong></p>\n<p
 >Cory Alpert is a sociologist and writer specializing in the intersection
of artificial intelligence and democracy. With experience working on presi
dential campaigns and at the White House\, Cory brings a unique perspectiv
e on how technology shapes societal trust and political engagement. His re
search focuses on how AI disrupts traditional democratic norms and explore
s ways to rebuild agency and efficacy in the age of algorithms.</p>\n<p>Co
ry will be in conversation with <strong>Sam&nbsp\;Floreani</strong>.</p>\n
