 n<p>Join Leah Dorion and learn about M&eacute\;tis cultural teachings and 
 design\, with a reading of M&eacute\;tis&nbsp\;Christmas Mittens and free-
 draw pattern-making activity. Students will make a set of their own M&eacu
 te\;tis Christmas Mittens using paper and mixed media. Great for school gr
 oups\, geared towards ages 12 and up. All welcome.</p>\n<p>This event will
  take place Online on Zoom. A link will be emailed to participants prior t
 o the event.</p>\n<p><strong>Recommended Materials:</strong>&nbsp\;constru
 ction paper in assorted colours\, scissors\, glue stick\, heavy white pape
 r or bristol board (approximately 11"x14")\, yarn\, drawing utensils\, pen
 cil/eraser\, scrap paper\, and access to a hole punch.</p>\n<p><strong><a

 <strong>Leah Marie Dorion</strong> is a M&eacute\;tis writer\, cultural kn
 owledge keeper\, and artist currently living near Prince Albert\, Saskatch
 ewan\, Canada. She is proud of her family roots to the historic M&eacute\;
 tis community of Cumberland House. Her artwork celebrates the strength and
  resilience of Indigenous women and families. Leah is also a published chi
 ldren's book author and illustrator. Several of her Metis cultural books a
 re available through Gabriel Dumont Press in Saskatoon\, Saskatchewan and 
 Strong Nations Publishing in Nanaimo\, British Columbia.</p>\n<p>Leah has 
 worked with Elders and youth in many creative projects. Leah has worked on
  many oral history projects in Saskatchewan both as a writer and researche
 r. Leah has graphically illustrated (storyboarding) many Elder presentatio
 ns at conferences and presentations in her unique art style. She worked as
  an Elder&rsquo\;s helper for many years which led to her completion of a 
 Thesis Project titled &ldquo\;Opikinawasowin: Growing Cree and M&eacute\;t
 is Children (2010).&rdquo\; about Cree and M&eacute\;tis Childrearing Conc
 epts based on Elders knowledge. Leah has a passion for early year&rsquo\;s
  education and is currently working with the M&eacute\;tis Nation of Briti
 sh Columbia (MNBC) to develop M&eacute\;tis cultural early years resources
  for children and families. She has also participated as a mentor and lead
  artist for the Mann Art Gallery Indigenous Residency Project and other me
 ntorship projects with M&eacute\;tis women entrepreneurs. Leah has spent t
 he past several years mentoring Indigenous youth in creative self expressi
 ve projects to help them reconnect with their culture. She currently works
  with youth in land based learning and share workshops about women&rsquo\;
 s traditional knowledge through the moon\, water\, and Bear Clan teachings
