\nAfter you make your way through all DIY activities in room 401 C\, come into The People's Archive. At 7pm enjoy a lightning talk by Thoma s Venker\, Editor-in-Chief of Kaput Magazine. Venker will be disc ussing the DMV's international punk legacy. We are also hosting an open ho use which includes showing unique footage from DC punk shows at the old 9: 30 Club location. \;

\nNando Á\;lvarez is an Ecuadorian artist ba sed in Washington\, D.C.\, whose practice is rooted in collaboration with local communities and artist collectives. His work explores the intersecti ons of social justice\, cultural identity\, and migration\, reflecting on how his Ecuadorian roots inform his present cultural landscape in the Unit ed States.At the heart of his practice is an exploration of human connecti on\, an ongoing dialogue between the individual and the universal experien ce of being human. Á\;lvarez is especially drawn to how crisis can r eveal the deeper layers of our shared humanity\, engaging themes of migrat ion\, identity\, and transformation. His work holds space for complexity\, vulnerability\, and resilience within these experiences.
\nThomas Venker lives and works in Cologne\, Germany.H e is co-publisher and co-editor-in-chief of Kaput &ndash\; Magazine for Bankruptcy &\; Pop\, and co-curat or of the concert series &ldquo\;Kö\;ln ist kaput&rdquo\; and &ldquo\; Talking Kaput.&rdquo\; In recent years\, Kaput has received numerous accol ades\, including the Rocco Clein Award for Best Music Magazine (2015)\, th e VUT Award for Best Experiment (2016)\, and three Anchor Awards\, the mus ic journalism prize presented by Hamburg&rsquo\;s Reeperbahn Festival\, fo r articles by its contributors in 2018\, 2019\, and 2020.Before founding K aput in 2014\, Venker served for 14 years as editor-in-chief of Intro Maga zine\, at the time Germany&rsquo\;s highest-circulation music magazine\, w ith a print run of 150\,000 copies. In 2008\, Intro received the Grimme On line Award for its groundbreaking digital presence.
\nVenker regular ly contributes to a wide range of magazines and daily newspapers\, moderat es panels and symposia for cultural institutions\, runs the art vinyl labe l Edition Fieber\, and is part of the curatorial team of the Monheim Trien nale.Most recently\, his book Talking to Americans was published by Ventil Verlag in Mainz.
