This virtual talk is based on the \;De rfner \;Museum&rsquo\;s current exhibition\, \;Taking a Broad View : Portrait Photography from the Collection\, of which features more than t wo dozen images by fourteen photographers working in the United States fro m the late nineteenth through the early twenty-first centuries. The photog raphers featured employ a variety of portrait genres\, including tradition al headshots for entertainment or editorial use\, candid portraits\, envir onmental portraits\, group and family portraits\, and more. Their subjects reflect a range of American identities\, from Fré\;dé\;ric Br enner&rsquo\;s women rabbis\, cantors\, faculty\, and students in Manhatta n to Larry Fink&rsquo\;s young girl preparing for her first communion in t he Bronx\, from \;GisMo&rsquo\;s \;Cuban American princesses in Mi ami to Toba Tucker&rsquo\;s Pueblo community members in the Southwest\, an d such icons of American culture as Ray Charles\, James Dean\, Betty Fried an\, Pete Seeger\, and many others.
